Structural Steel Repairs

Steel corrosion, and the resulting expansion of the steel due to rust, is the main cause of the shifting and displacement of masonry units. Most costly masonry repairs are often due to water infiltration and inadequate flashing that causes corrosion of the unprotected embedded steel. Depending on the severity of the corrosion, typically restoration or replacement is required.

Restoration includes mechanically cleaning the steel down to white metal removing any rust and stopping the corrosion process. Applying a marine grade epoxy coating to the restored steel as well as installing a proper flashing system will prevent water infiltration and the corrosion from reoccurring.

Steel replacement is typically required after years of neglect, when corrosion has occurred to the extent that the structural integrity of the load bearing steel component has been compromised.
