Designed by Burnham Brothers and built in 1929, the 37-floor skyscraper was designated a Chicago Landmark in 1996. Built as a high-rise office tower, it was recently transformed into the Hard Rock Hotel Chicago that houses 383 guest rooms and 13 suites.
The Carbide and Carbon Building is a great example of Art Deco architecture. The exterior base is black granite with black marble and bronze trim, whereas the central shaft is clad in dark green and gold terracotta and the greenish cap.
Summary of Work
To fully restore the historical façade of the 80-plus-year-old building to its original splendor, Dougal Building Maintenance performed critical façade examinations, terracotta masonry repair, metal cornice repair, and bronze restoration and metal finishing. Project scope also included concrete restoration, flashing systems replacement, sealant replacement, and painting.
